2003 Yamaha YZ250F Service Manual

Typically I get these manuals because I need to help someone with something on their bike. In this case, my brother had a 2003 YZ250F that he needed some help with so he sent me his manual.
The Yamaha manuals are a little different in that they include the Service Manual and a Parts Manual.
Here’s the Service Manual.

i have a 03 yamaha 250f that has been bored over and now isa 290…my question is probably simple and something i should easy be able to answer….
my compression is very weak and i have a lot of trouble getting the engine to fire by normal kick starting…actually to the point to where now the only way to get it fired is by jump starting it on a hill. after getting it fired ..it runs great….any suggestions on what my problem area is? thanks alot….

Without knowing more information, I would guess your valves need adjusting, which is quite common. The manual should cover valves adjustments, and should help you get it running better.
Typically when the valves are out of adjustment, the bike won’t idle, will be hard to start, will backfire quite a bit, and will be down on power.
